Jane Gardner

Writer
“I am a Wellington-based writer and poet who has spent 7+ decades in love with the written and spoken word. My English father fostered in me love and yearning for the land and the written record of my ancestors.
In part, this explains the genesis of Grendel’s Mother, although this work has several other influences and motivations, e.g. the desire to give voice to the silenced and the exploration of human relationships
I have always loved poetry — it demands concision, privileges language and affords me opportunity for the exploration of feeling & meaning. I studied English literature and creative writing at Victoria University of Wellington. I am grateful for exposure to the academic and theoretical training in writing. Writing is, at first, a private act, but I want to share the result and hope it will be enjoyed.”
