A lyrical and historical account of an ocean voyage

It is the twenty-fourth of March 1992, and the

veteran Greenpeace yacht Vega,

is berthed at the viaduct in Auckland

harbour. Three women crew and the

boat’s Captain Chris Robinson wave

goodbye to the crowd gathered on

the wharf. Guided by paper charts, a

sextant and the stars they will sail

across the Tasman Sea, through the

tropical waters of Australia, across

the vast Indian Ocean and up

the coast of Africa towards their

destination, the Island of Paros

in the Aegean Sea. This book tells

the tale of that voyage through the eyes of crew member Robyn White. With

the daily challenges, joys and

rhythms of life at sea playing out on

deck, memories, hopes and dreams

well up from the depths. The crew

begin to question and wonder what will become of their treasured Vega when

they get there.
